About Lilliput Libraries
Lilliput Libraries started in Dunedin as the Poems in the Waiting Room (NZ) 2015/16 project. We intended to build 10 Lilliput Libraries, offer them to Guardians, who would site them on their fence lines, keep them tidy, and well stocked.
But before we knew it, it was 2018 and we had 150 Lilliput Libraries throughout Otago with more popping up in Southland, Canterbury, and even a few scattered about the North Island.
So how do they work?
The books are free for anyone to take away. You don’t have to become a member of Lilliput Libraries, you don’t need to return the books. We encourage you to take a book now, return or donate one later. If you’re walking by and see a book that interests you, take it home. Next time you’re passing you may want to return it or pop another book in the Lilliput Library. We’re more than happy if you pass your Lilliput Library book on to someone else. It’s all about the love of reading.
As from March 2017 Poems in the Waiting Room(NZ) stopped providing the Lilliput Libraries. If you are interested in becoming a guardian email us about suitability and requirements and we’ll happily share our plan with you. You might like to design and build your own Lilliput Library or recycle a suitable container. If you want your Library to join our Lilliput family, you’re welcome to use our name. Just let us know and we’ll give you a number, share some tips, and add your location to our map.
We’re always happy to answer any questions.
